Approve minutes from the April 8, 2004 meeting.

Input and discussion on the comprehensive review of parole standards and the study being conducted by Dr. James Austin through a grant funded by the National Institute of Corrections. The Board may determine whether or not the current guideline is effective in predicting the probability that a convicted person will live and remain at liberty without violating the law if parole is granted or continued. The Board may take action regarding recommendations made by Dr. Austin regarding the guideline and risk assessment.

Input and discussion on Audit Report No. 03-07 by the Division of Internal Audits. The Board may take action regarding the recommendation of audit report number 03-07 to conduct parole hearings in absentia (without the inmate being present). The Board may continue or discontinue the practice of conducting hearings in absentia or change how in absentia hearings are conducted.

Public Comment. No action may be taken upon a matter raised under this item of the agenda until the matter itself has been specifically included on an agenda as an item upon which action may be taken pursuant to subparagraph (2) of NRS 241.020.

Adjournment

A period following the conclusion of the day’s agenda shall be devoted to public comment. Such comment may be restricted to content that is within the authority of the board. The board may limit such comment to three minutes per person. The board may take items in a different order to accomplish business in the most efficient manner.
